Is Adoption for Me?

Adoption could be a great fit if you aren’t sure you’re ready to parent. You will always be a mother, no matter what you decide. Many possibilities allow you to choose the best adoption plan and family for you, your child, and your future.

Though adoption can be challenging, it can also be a rewarding option that allows you to provide a hopeful future for your child. The choice is entirely up to you, but here is more information to know if you are considering adoption.

Three Types of Adoptions

1. Open Adoption

An open adoption is the most common type of adoption. With open adoption, there is complete open communication between you, the child, and the adoptive family.

You will get to choose the adoptive family you want to raise your child and stay in contact with them. You decide how involved you want to be in your child’s life.

2. Semi-Open Adoption

Semi-open adoption is similar to an open adoption. You can still have contact with your child, but your adoption coordinator will help manage communication between you, the child, and the adoptive family. All of your identifying information is kept entirely private.

3. Closed Adoption

A closed adoption is best if you are concerned about the safety of your child. Sometimes, privacy is best for both parties.

With a closed adoption, no contact is made with your child, and all parties’ identities are kept confidential. The court keeps adoption records sealed.
